RFSC ~ Week 1 Recap & Week 2 Goals

Week 1:  Weight 269.4 (-3 pounds)

Weight Loss:  Yay! Goodbye 270's! I met my goal of 2 pounds and will continue with that goal for next week.  So, by this time next week I will weigh 267.4 pounds or less.

My Non-scale Victory (NSV):  My ultimate goal is to fit into my size 18 jeans.  I plan on taking another picture in my jeans in a month, which is April 22, to see how I’m doing with the weight loss and losing the inches.  I said that I was going to clean out my hall closet, well that didn’t happen.  It’s been a crazy week and I never did get a chance to even think about it until now.  I will try to do it this week.

Exercise:  I did really well with exercise last week.  My friend Linda is getting back into running and even though we don’t run together we make plans and know that the other one is out running and we don’t want to let each other down.  It’s a great motivator. I walked everyday and ran/walked every other day. It was a great stress reliever and I plan on doing the same thing this coming week.

Nutrition:  I really slacked on counting calories this week.  I tried to make good choices and would eat every 2-3 hours.  This week I’m going to concentrate on getting in at least 2-4 cups of vegetables and fruits a day.  I did really well on getting in my daily water intake.  I carried a bottle around with me all day and drank a good liter of water when I exercised.  I will continue with the water and stay with my goal of 96 ounces this coming week.

For the mini challenge I tried a new type of healthy salad.  My friend Linda brought a salad using a different kind of lettuce from her garden, strawberries, walnuts and a tomato based Italian dressing.  I was really hesitant to try it because I “hate” tomatoes and the thought of tomatoes and strawberries sounded really gross, but to my surprise is was really good.  The dressing tasted more like Italian dressing and I didn’t taste the tomato at all.  I put just a tiny amount of dressing but the strawberries and walnuts tasted really yummy in the salad.  I will definitely do this more often.  It was filling too.

I tried to post to everyone’s blog last week.  I’m so excited to see everyone’s progress and how everyone is doing, but there are so many people in the challenge and it’s hard to keep up.  I will do my best to see how everyone is doing this week and check out how last week went for you.  Good luck this week in the challenge and meeting your goals.

RFSC ~ Week 1 Goals

Day 1: Weight 272.4

Today is the first official day of the challenge.  We were asked to take our ultimate goals and break them down to small bite-sized goals. So this week:

Weight Loss:  My ultimate goal is to lose 20 pounds, which would mean that I need to lose at least 2 pounds this week.

My Non-scale Victory (NSV): My ultimate goal is to fit into my size 18 jeans. The best way to meet this weekly goal is to follow the exercise and nutrition weekly goals.  I did see some other challengers put in some Spring Cleaning on their weekly challenge and I thought that was brilliant….so I’m going to put that I will clean out and organize my hall closet. That’s if I can get the door open, it’s stuffed full of junk.

Exercise:  I’m training for a 5k, which I signed up for on July 1. I need to start training for this, and plan on following the Women’s Health Magazine Running Calendar.  I plan on doing week 1 of the calendar, which is clickable here or is under my workout tab above.

Nutrition:  I was figuring last night, which I did see some of my fellow challengers doing the same thing, how many calories I would need to consume, and how many calories I would need to burn in order to lose 2lbs for the week.  I figured if I ate 1300 calories a day and burned 330, which is 2310 calories in a week that I should lose 2 pounds.  I plan on keeping track of this on Myfitnesspal.com.  I also said that I would drink 120 ounces of water a day, what was I thinking? Right now I’m going to concentrate on drinking 96 ounces a day.

We also have a mini challenge to try a new vegetable, fruit or other healthy dish that we have never had before.  This should be fun. I'll have to go and look through some recipes or scout out the grocery store for something interesting to try.

Well, those are my weekly goals for the Ready for Summer Challenge.  I look forward to checking in with everyone to see how you are doing.  Right now I better get out and do Day 1 of my exercises.  I’ll be back tonight with my daily update.  Good Luck everyone and we’re going to Rock this challenge!

A Big Thank You

Everything is starting to come together. First thing first, I have to thank Lisa at http://lcmancinichallenge.blogspot.com/  It's because of her that I found the fitblogger challenge where I won my own MyTrak, and of course, a big thank you to Fitblogger  and Mytrak. I couldn't believe it, I never ever win anything. This made my day. If you don't know what I'm talking about check out: http://fitblogger.ca/mytrak-summer-challenge/.  I couldn't be more thrilled.  I'm looking forward to learning how to use it, and it will make getting rid of these pesky 100 pounds of fat so much easier.  Last week I made a goal to do every day of the 5k program and to drink more water, which I failed on the 5k program. I did drink more water and was so happy with myself when we went out to eat and I ordered water.  If you know me, you would know I'm a diet coke junkie and not a big fan of water. So, major victory!  This week my goal will be to follow the 5k in 100 days, which I talk about below, and to continue with drinking the water.

Regarding my first 5k, I signed up a while ago to do a 5k in 100 days at http://www.bradgansberg.com/5k_in_100_days_free_info.html. I kind of forgot about it, because he was working with his attorney to get some paperwork done so that he could do the program.  This was back in March, and I just got an email from him last week telling me that he was ready to get the program started.  I've sent in my paperwork and will be following his program starting today.  He lays out a weekly program to follow, and he posts weekly videos about what to work on while training. He emphasizes the importance of stretching, warm up and cool down and what type of shoes to wear, etc.  Basically, it's the perfect program for a newbie such as myself.  The main reason I'm doing this program over SparkPeople is because he is interested in going slowly, and building the muscles that we need for running to prevent injury.  Since I'm new to running and I know my weight is causing a tremendous amount of strain, I need to go as slow as possible, while still making progress for the ultimate goal.  Besides, I need more time to raise money for my goals :)  Which Mytrak takes care of some of them.  Yipee!

I hope that everyone is having a wonderful 3 day weekend, and I would like to say a big Thank You to all of the veterans and servicemen and women out there for helping make America a wonderful place to call home!

As you can probably tell I'm wanting to start running.  A good friend of mine has done several 5K's and a few 10K's and talks about the runner high that she gets, and the feeling of accomplishment.  I never thought of myself as a runner, but when you have spent much of your adult life over 200 pounds it doesn't seem possible.  I'm ready to meet my goals and am excited to one day run the full marathon at Disney World!

I've set up the table above showing the fitness goals that I'm wanting to achieve, in order to get the reward I must also meet the weight loss goal.  I plan on setting aside $40.00 a month to pay for my rewards.  This would be how much I would have to pay if I was paying for Weight Watcher meetings.  I'm unable to attend the meetings, because it doesn't work out with my schedule and I live 50 miles away from any meeting place. I plan on following the weight watcher "old" program at home, and I have all of the material to get started. I also plan on rewarding myself for every 10 pounds lost, these rewards will not cost any money, but will be a way of pampering myself.  I will post these rewards on my home page. I know that motivation is very important to lose this much weight, and I'm willing to do whatever I can to stay motivated and work towards a goal. I'm ready to get started and will be weighing in on Wednesday, after my Doctor's appointment.  I Can't wait!
